Brake cleaner will certainly work... I tend to do what cayugad suggested about flushing it out in hot soapy water rinse it hot water - shake it or blow dry - flush it with a powder blaster (which you might substitue you brake cleaner for) - dry it - oil it... that is the simple quick way to get er done

Some shooting is better than not shooting at all - shoot that plastic 7 those 300's - I am using 110 grains of t7-2f and pushes them along something fierce - youmight even enjoy em... shooting faster and flatter might really surprise you from that Ultra Mag....

Shooting a 100 yards with open sights - there are so many varibles - how well do you see the target? which hold are you using? where is the front sight bead in the rear groove is it exactly in the same place and on the same place on the target? is the sight picture the same? what about the cross-winds are they consistent all the way down range? is there a cross-wind? what kind of bench/rest? Even if you are a great 100 yard shooter with one rifle the next rifle will be somewhat different - another learning curve. but not to matter the more you shoot the more enjoyment you get....

have fun - "Any day is a good day to shoot"
