Default RE: Question on long shots?

As Txhunter said, The key to any shot is practice and knowing your equipment. I live in west Texas, we have very little tree cover and lots of flat land, so a long shot is not all that unusual. I slowly started taking longer shots, only after years of practice. Each year I feel a little more comfortable taking longer shots. I use 3*9*42 scope on my 30-06 and feel very comfortable up to 250 to 300 yards. I have only shot one deer up to 300 yeards and that was last year. It was the deer of my dreams, it was crossing a wheat field at about 300 yards. I knew the distance because this is the field I use to target practice on. The deer droped on the spot. Double lung shot. I do know a lot of people around here hunt prong horns. If you cant make up to a 300 yard shot, you mid-as-well stay home. That is, at least in these parts.

Lifes a garden, dig it.
