RE: Summer time bowhunting property projects?
Well to begin with I had my hardwoods selectivily logged this winter. This will allow more sunlight in on the forest floor creating more browse and cover, eliminating unwanted trees while leaving more desireable trees (healthy oaks and beeches). All logging roads and loading areas were fertilized and seeded with a wildlife mix. I've got some cleaning up of branches and such around stand areas. This will impact deer travel and this next season will be a learning process.
I'm trying to plant more chestnuts in my fields and I've broken some ground for corn and sunflowers (sunflowers for birds and show along field fence directly behind house). Planting some more apple trees as well. That and getting stands up will be about all I get done this year.
