Default SON OF A... GOOD MORNING GOBBLER!

Well, status of todays hunt consists of lots of four letter words... first day of our five day season called in two small jakes that were passed on, day two called in three small jakes that were passed on, day three had a storm and a cold front move in birds got quiet didn't see a thing, and today was day four...

we started out today by setting up on a different gobbler that had been in the same roost every morning and found out that he wasn't in that roost he was about a quarter mile away and across the road so we moved closer and set up and started calling. He gobbled and gobbled finally leaving his roost about 7:00 and came all the way until he was only about 100 yards away and closing fast. He got to the road and stopped, gobbled a bit more and turned around heading the other direction, he just did not want to cross the road. So, we decided to move to where we had been the first two mornings and set up to see if anything was still there...

we set up and waited about 15 minutes before calling and i called for about 10 minutes before GOBBLE! about 30 yards right behind us followed by the psst psst hmmmm of him spitting and drumming... this was the big one we were after, HOWEVER, as i said he was BEHIND us. we were set up in some thick brush on the edge of a food plot and we did this so that they couldn't come in from behind us... well thats where he was. Iyelped, cluckedand purred and he would not go the 10 feet he needed to to come around the side where my dad had the shot... well my dad decided to try to turn around and did so slowly and quietly but the gobbler turned and high tailed it straight away and never looked back!

Tomorrow is the last day of his season and we are hoping to see that gobbler back in the area but I don't know if he'll be back or not... either way it was a eventful and very exciting morning.. you gotta love hearing that drumming right behind you... Hope you all have better luck than we did!
