Hogs are great with bows. Keep the shot low and behind the shoulder and you will avoid the shield. I have also found quartering away shots tend to do better. It puts the arrow way behind the shield and penetrates the diaphram, liver , lungs and heart, if you put it in the right place. I prefer a quartering away. I have never had a hog travel further than 30 to 40 yards on a quartering away shot, but have tracked them for ever on a broad side with limited penetration.
