RE: patterned my 835
60 yards? i would truly like to see this.
46 hits in the 'vitals'.
i would have to approximate that the entire vitals of a turkey would only constitute10 squre inches. (rough estimate)
there is 79.5 square inches in a 10" circle(fact)
so, the vitals would fill up 1/8 of the ten inch circle.(rough estimate)
you're gun put 46 hits in the vitals. if your pattern was nice and even, there should have been another 322 hits(46 hits X's 8- 46) outside the 'vital' hits in that 10" circle.
WOW, that would be a total of 368 hits in the 10" circle
winchester xtended 3.5" 2oz#5's have a total pellet count of 318(winchester data)
if you're getting a nice and even turkey pattern, and getting 46 'vital' hits at 60 yards, you must be putting every single pellet in a 9" circle...................that is one incredibly tight pattern your gun throws there. i sure wouldn't want to see the pattern at 40, 30 or 20 yards.
that gun/pattern of yours would blow the competition away at the world still target contests. i think the winnersare only getting 20-30 hits in a 3" circle at either 30 or 40 yards. you would have to be getting around 60.
i have the same 835, shot the exact same load(except in #6's with 414 pellets total) thru hastings chokes of .675, .680, .685, .690 and .695 and am only able to put 210 hits in a 10" circle at 40 yards. this after polishing the barrel and shooting off a gun rest.
almost forgot. most guys are confident with 4-6 vitals hits for their max distance. your pattern should hold up at least another 30-40 yards and still get 4-6 vital hits
