RE: Wildlife Research Scents
I personally am not a big fan of scents. I have not decided if I will use them next week or not. I have seen a lot of nice deer without using scent, but have not yet seen that trophy buck. Then again I have only been out for 3 years but some of my buddies are very experienced hunters and they have had some great success without scents. 2 years ago my uncle shot a nice 12 pointer without using scent. Then again I have had some buddies that swear by using the scents that get some nice deer every year. All of my buddies success has been with the (doe in estrus) scent. They do work! They use the wicks. Last year one of my buddies shot a nice 8 pointer and the buck was actually licking the wick he put in the bush when he shot it. I am just hesitant to use them because I personally feel that being totally scent free is the way to go. Any new scent in the area is going to make the buck more cautious and I believe the buck will be more alert. Does the scent lure them in? Probably. Would it make a huge buck curious? Absolutley. I just personally feel scent free is the way to go. Cant go wrong. I do have one buddy that uses the dominant buck scent, but I am not certain how he uses it. I will follow up with him and let you know.
