If the dog was here, i would start graduate ob outside a little not to expect to much, in the house i would still be working and doing retrieves, to hand, get the hallway shut off escape routes, 1 way there 1 way back, when it gets between your legs pet and praise, let the dog hold the bumper for little bit, puppies like to show off. 1 maybe 2 every other day, and on upland get some pen raised quail, pull a few feathers so it cant fly real well, walk the dog to general area, and dont say anything, let the dog find it on its own, let it catch eat what ever, if it retrieves, same as in th ehouse, let the dog carry, you praise the dog as its walking and showing ya what its got, walk 10 or so yrds, and kneel down just like the house, and say here, if it dont come walk some more and repeat, it will eventually come, pet and praise then get the bird and be done for the day. If the dog has any restraint for the release, do not fight it, take your right hand and pinch the flank right in front of the rear leg, and say drop, the dog will spit the bird to go to the pressure, so if you are questionable, practice before hand, while dog is in between the legs, pet down side, left hand on bumper or bird, pinch and say drop, left hand take away, right hand instantly start petting. whew!! With pups, Patience is definate virtue!! The teaching of the drop this way will encourage here, will prevent chase, adn tug o war, stopping short, ect. Ya follow?? Thanks Jonesy
