im blow my crow call and nothing gobbles, does that mean there arent any birds in that area
Absolutely not!!!
I've stood under roosted toms before flydown and blasted away with a crow and no response.I've cutt, no response and then "walked up"/spookeda turkey within 50 yards. I've hoot owled, no response, changed to a different hooter and gotten a shock gobble. I've coyote yelped (and this will usually evoke a response in the area I hunt) and not received a return gobble, to later see a tom strolling along where I yelped.
Then there are days in the woods when the toms will gobble at their own shadow, it seems.
The thing to do is to try several different sounds, and DON'T assume, because you got no response, that there isn't a turkey twenty yards away. He just might be!!
