Huge guns are more of an ego thing than anything in my opinion. If you can't put down an elk with a 7mm Rem Mag at 500 yards then you had better not be shooting that far. And I don't know about you guys, but I prefer to have as much meat as possible left over. I've seen holes bigger than my fist (not kidding) punched in a dall sheep with a regular 300 win mag using Federal Safari grade ammo. So buying anything bigger than a 300 Win Mag and using it for hunting is a little ridiculous if you ask me. Having said that, I really want to take a crack at an elk using my uncle's 30-378 one of these years.
