just an observation. i spent 10 days in africa hunting with my 50mm vari x iii. you kinda get married to your gun in that time with all the critters to hunt there. the 50mm looks kinda big and goofy . my brother has the 40mm vari xiii. after many days hunting with my 50mm i had the chance to shoulder my brothers gun on a impala and it was strange. the 40mm looked constricted and almost toy like. the 50mm was more open and honest. i dont care about the numbers. the 50mm has its place in hunting but spending that kinda money makes it a tough decision. i think your gonna be happy either way. the eye relief is second to none. glad to see you looking at a leupold. your gonna love it!
