Turkeystalker the 12" circle isn't what we chose, it is what size circle was on the Dick Kirby turkey targets we used and sell. I will have to check but I believe most of the other targets on the market at 12" as well (Primos, HS). Ray uses 10" @ 40yds because he can, most others would be embarrassed if they had to rely on 10" targets. With Rhino/Nitro combos on 10" targets at 40yds Ray lists 230-270 pelletsin that circle.
But even that doesn't tell the whole story. Once I get a shotgun sighted in I like to shoot a 12oz beverage can and shoot them at 60yds to "tell teh tale". My 835 with a .695 Rhino and 4x5x7 Nitros I put 22 pellets in a 12oz Coors can at 60yds lastyear. Earlier this week I rigged my brother-in-law up with a 835 and the same setup as mine. He shot a 12oz can @ 40yds and just destroyed it. I'll try to get a pic of it, I carried it too the shop and have it on the counter with our other targets/patterns. I tried to count them this morning but had trouble telling where multiple 7s went through as opposed to were some of the holes 4s or 5s? Anyway the holes in the facing side of the can nears 100. It blew the can (empty by the way) about 15' behind the box it was sitting on so it hit it VERY hard.
These ol Mossbergs are simply amazing turkey guns. As for my pick for a 3.5" waterfowl gun, I would go with a Extrema II first with a SBE II being my second pick. But we sell plain synthetic black 935s for $399.99 and the same 835s for $249.99. You WON'T beat them for turkey guns, but the fact that they are so cheap makes the deal that much sweeter!!!
