I started taking my son squirrel and dove hunting at 3 years old. Then at 4 years old I would take him deer hunting some. Usually we would go in a little late in the afternoon so he only had to sit an hour or so. Take snacks and water for them to eat. <u>NO</u> soft drinks with caffeine. Now he is 7 and wants to go all the time with me. I normally hunt out of a climber but I built a large box stand for both of us to hunt out of. It helps because he still tends to wiggle. The main thing is to keep it fun for the kid. If this means leaving a little early then do it. Once they've seen their first deer in the woods they'll be more intersted.
