Default RE: Turkey Question.

if your planning on hunting this bird once season comes in...i think you can call....but SPARINGLY...dont fire him up by answering his gobble with a cutting cadence or a few yelps...not now anyway...give a couple of soft yelps and walk away, he's certain there's a hen looking for him. I've been able to keep an old boss tom looking for what he thinks is a hen in the area by clucking and tossing a couple of yelps out at him, he stayed on the hill for a few days....then my own season opened..and i had this old tom checking the area where he heard me calling from. when dawn came and he pitched from his roost he instinctively flew down to where he heard my tree yelps and let out a big ol' gobble....it was then that i would cut him off with my own aggressive calling...cackle..clucks..yelps..and to bring him running..some heavy duty cutting. By the time opening day came around he was so fired up and sure his hen was right out in front of him that he practically ran to me.
Now, this might be a special occasion, but it has worked for me more than once, and i think if your attitude is right in the turkey woods..you'll get that bird. Good Luck!
