RE: Turkey Hunting Code of Ethics
Good JW
- you have covered the bases. Just some other thoughts:
- You bring to mind a point ("hunt...fairly").When I readother posts (usuallyin the acrimonius antler pointrestriction/qdm-related threads),a poster will often argue"if it's legal, then it's none of your businessif I want to ..." (fill in the blank). IF IT'S LEGAL... I am thinking all the while, it is legal in MD (and probably in many other states) to shoot a gob off the roost - yet most ethical turkey hunters consider it "unfair" or anextreme case of poor sportsmanship. It still bothers me to heara shotgun blast the first minutes of legal shooting time (1/2 hour before sunrise here in MD and VA), knowing that the bird was still probably up in a tree.If someone wants a turkeythat bad, they should just go to the grocery store. I know "hunt fairly" is open to the reader's interpretation, but at least it should be understood to preclude shooting a bird still on his morning roost.
