RE: What went wrong?
I'd like to add to all the upper posts. The worst mistake I hear many hunters do is call, get a gobble right back, and immediately call again to get him to gobble more. Thats a HUGE mistake, and goes right long with calling too much. Plus when you respond directly back to a tom like that he believes your answering him, and he's telling you(the Hen) to come to him. This hangs them up all the time. Then the hunter can't figure why the tom didn't come. You need to do just the opposite. When a tom answers your call. Wait awhile before you call again. I like to wait a good 15mins or better. This way if he has any interest in you,it'll stand a better chance of coming in, and not hanging up. I also like to use a good crow call to locate birds. I know alot of hunters walk around, and call trying to strike up a tom. Then once get a tom to gobble, they'll move in closer if needed, and setup, and begin calling. We'll the hen just made a move towards him, and he thinks she's coming. So I like to get them to shock gobble with locater calls. Then setup, and see if he'll come in w/ hen talk.
