the best advice i can give you is pick up a cassette tape or video of how to call predators.you don't just blow thru a distress call,you have to work it and its hard to show someone how over this computer.the tapes are good becouse you can hear how it supposed to sound.then practice,practice,practice.there are many tapes,books and video's on the subject of calling and seting up for predators.its important that one knows how to do it or you just tend to educate every predator within ear shot of your calling.your stand locations are also important and the most important thing is scouting,they have to be there before you can call one in.trapper dave is right about night huntin,all predators are most active at night.night is the best time for fox,red or gray.coyotes on the other hand are diffacult at night.coyotes are also most active at night but have a tendency not to charge or trot in like fox will.coyotes are sneaky,they slither in then leave without you ever knowing they were there.you will educate far more then you will ever harvest spacificly targeting coyotes at night.this isn't to say they can't be had at night because they can,you just need to be on your toes or have a partner with you so you can watch a 360 degree area.wheather it be shot gun or rifle,i prefer daylight huntin coyotes,this way i can see those sneaky bugers trying to get down wind on me.using the wind to your advantage is the single most important thing a predator hunter needs to learn.all predators,expecialy coyotes have already master the art of using the wind. proper stand placement is critical in being succsessfull.if you want grays hunt nears swamps and other thicket type areas reds prefer hard woods and grass feild type areas.but both these critters can be any where at any time,in other words you might call grays out of grass feilds and reds out of swamps.coyotes can also be anywhere at anytime but generaly run the same trails as the deer do.like the deer,coyotes don't like to exposing themselfs any more then nessassary.its important regardless of spieces being hunted that you are able to see them coming,if you can't see them(or if night huntin,see there relecting eyes)you can't shoot them.and you must be able to shoot before they get straight down wind of you.predatoor huntin is a learning proccess,every time you go out you will learn somthing new and in time you will get the hang of it.stick with it and don't get frustaighted,in time it will all for into place.
