RE: what is the best small rilfe (.22)
I agree that the after-market stuff for the 10/22 is awesome, and they are a fun gun to shoot, but are illegal to hunt with here in Pennsylvania. I once owned a Ruger 77/22 when they first came out, and was extremely disappointed in it's accuracy. Tried every brand of ammo I could get my hands on. No luck. Wrote to the factory complaining about it, and they told me to send it back, which I did. When I got it back, it was no better. It went down the road. The 541 Rem.'s that some of my friends have are great shooters. My old 511 Rem. is a good shooter. Got a new Henry that I've not shot yet, but I'm gettin' itchy to try it.
I think part of "what's best" is what the individual likes themselves, and is willing to accept for accuracy. Some will not tolerate an 1 1/2" grouper @ 50 yds., and some feel that is sufficient accuracy for a squirrel rifle.
Get whatever YOU like.....Shoot it.
