Just thought I would add this in.
On my way to work this morning, I glance at the farm that I just got permission to hunt, over 1500 acres in total between this farm and the next.
Prime turkey habitat.
What do I see?
About 60 birds, hens yelping away.
Out of those 60 birds, I counted 12 strutters, all mature birds.
I curse myself for not having my binoculars, and for leaving my calls at home.
Then, I look at my car horn. I roll down the window, turn off the car, and give two toots on the car horn.
Gobbles echo from every direction...
Four back to back, then another, then another....
I wait, do it again, and the same thing happens...
Honestly, I had forgotten how happy I got just hearing a bird gobble.
Was running a little late to work, so I had to drive on.
I gave the birds one last look, picked one strutter, and told him I would be seeing him on May 1st
