Default Why isn't there a .277/08?????

Well, why not? I would think with all the popularity given to cartridges spun off the .308 Win, such as the media darling 7mm/08, the .260 Rem, the .243 Win and the .358 Win, that some company would have long ago started commercially loading a .277cal bullet in a necked-down .308 case. But, I don't even hear very much about it, even as a wildcat.

Are the big ammo companies afraid that the example set by the .284 Win is the fate that awaits all who try to compete against the vaunted .270 Win? I have had a .284 Win and there is nothing that a .270 can do that it can't do equally as well, or even better. All this through a short length case and with slightly heavier bullets.

Wouldn't a .277/08 make a lot of sense? If it were comercially available with just 130gr and 150gr premium bullets, it would be one of the best all-around rifles in the woods.

I think Winchester should load it and call it the .277 Win. That way they could take away some of the sales of 7mm/08 and .260 from Remington!

Can anyone shed some light on this subject?
