I'd look at a used Mossberg 835 (12 ga. 3.5" chamber). It will pattern well and, most importantly, it won't break the bank. It's a really common gun, and almost any gunshop will carry them.
You can usually come up with a used one for about $200. If I'm not mistaken, the camo model comes with a turkey choke. I'm pretty sure you can get a new one for under $300 as well.
Also, look at the Remington 870 Supermag - 3.5" chamber. You canfind thewalnut/matte version for $300 new. In my opinion, it's more solidly built than the Mossberg, but a little pricier. If you can find a used one, I'd strongly consider going thatroute. Again, this is acommon gun, so there are a lot of used ones floating around.
Both aredecent shotgunsfor field use, and you can mount a scope or hang a slingon it if you like. It will pattern right alongside of the$750-$1000 Remington semi's and Berettas if you mix and match the right load/choke. New chokes/accessories are easy to find. Squirrelswon't stand a chance.
If you keep it clean, you'llget your money's worth out of it.
