Default RE: 257 roberts

Its a real Gem. I had one of the Ruger all weather rifles in that caliber. I also had a 700 Remington ADL Synthetic which was a special run in 2001. I also have a 25-06 in the Ruger and the 250-3000 in the Savage lever action and in the 700 Classic which was the classic run in 1974 I think. As you can tell, I like the 25 caliber. I once had a 257 Weatherby but in real life it was not much of a gain over the 25-06. most loads were only about 100 fps difference when you stayed within the pressure limits.

The best bet may be the 25-06 and if you want a little more zip, its a cheap conversion to go to the 25-06 Ackely Improved. Rosce has done these and comes up equal to the Weatherby with more availabe brass and such. The AI conversion will give you better brass life with little or no trimming and less barrel erosion than the Weatherby. I am thinking of doing this conversion on my Ruger as we speak. The 25 WSSM is another thought. Good luck. Caution... The quarter bores can be addictive.

My wife latched onto the 250 Remington classic for her deer rifle. It works great on our big bodied Mule deer. I load the 100 Grain Nosler Ballistic tip for her. The WW 100 grain Silver tips work great as well. Thats the old style Silver-tips.
