If all I were doing with a recurve was shooting targets, then I'd have an elevated rest on it. For hunting and knocking about in the woods, I want the simplicity and dependability of shooting off the shelf. Since I do much more of the latter than I do of the former, all my bows but one are shot off the shelf and when I use them to shoot targets,I just accept the fact I'm giving away a few points on the score card.
Besides, I've got a box full of tournament trophies packed away andhiding out in the attic already and really don't need any more.
You're making the bow. Make it the way YOU want it. That's the beauty of making your own bow.
