RE: first bow
Spend a GOOD amount of time figuring out what YOU personally like to have in a bow before you buy anything, is the best advice I can suggest. Don't fall into a rut of Hoyt...Matthews...Bowtech or anyother bow maker. It's all just a bunch of BS. Buy what bow fits your needs the best.
What do you want? Pure speed, smooth drawing, what amount of hand shock is acceptable, do you like a valley/no valley, what size of bow do you want..axle to axle, quiet shooting bow and I'm sure there are more examples that could be said. Know all of these before you purchase anything. I'm currently on my 2nd bow..Hoyt Xtec..that I bought over 3 years ago now. I knew I wanted a smooth drawing, zero hand shock and a quiet shooting bow. At the time, the Xtec and the Matthews Outback were brand new so I compared those two. They shot I thought exactly the same, so I went with the Xtec purely because I liked the skinny Hoyt handle over the Matthews. Now a couple years later and knowing a heck of alot more about bows now, the only regret I have about my bow is that it has zero valley to it and I'm not such a fan of that. My first bow had a pretty generous valley and I preferred that. When I get a little tired and start to creep forward, my bow just wants to take off because the of somewhat radical cams. I'm certainly not going to spend another$700-800 to get a bow with what I have, but with a bigger valley. But that's what I've learned. KNOW WHAT YOU WANT BEFORE YOU BUY!!
Sorry for the long explanation, but I hope it helps.
