We've had a pretty serious hog overpopulation problem on our lease for a while. Since deer season ended my brother in law and I have hunted them really hard and it seems to have made a difference. I have been out at least 3 times a week and for the past 2 weeks haven't seen one hog. I know that we have not put much of a dent in their numbers but I think the pressure has moved them out for now. They WILL be back. When they come back I'll be waiting for them. We don't trap because of the cattle on the property. Caught a calf last year and momma sure tried hard to get us when we tried to let it loose. That was some fun!
I have seen some fresh rooting and tracks so they aren't all off the place but we aren't seeing 20 or 30 hogs in a pasture at one time. That just makes picking out a target harder. So many choices!
Hunt 'em hard, they will move off.
Yep, so true. Hogs will take off when hunted hard.. and Your right Txrookie, they will come back again. Hogs do migrate. So one way to control them, is to let them know you are there!!
