RE: I think i have an idea!
The drag idea does work. I've used it with success several times.
The first deer I ever got with a bow was almost 25 years ago. I was young and learning all I could about archery huntingwhile hunting with my old Bear Whitetail. I learned through trial and error.
I was hunting during the rut, but was willing to shoot either buck or doe. Anyway, I had a botttle of doe-in-heat scent in my pocket. I decided to put some on my tennis shoes [ didn't have good equipment or even hunting boots back then] and walk to my tree stand. [ the permenant kind you make out of old skids and 2x4's]
I was in the tree for about 45 minutes when I heard a few twigs snap. I looked down and to my right, and there was this button buck following my trail. I was excited. I readied my bow and took the 20 yd. shot. I got it andwas hooked on archery hunting.
That was a long time ago but that was my first introduction with using scents.
Of coarse you have to be careful with controlling your own scent and watching wind direction. But when the rut is going I've had bucks come to me on a dead run, with their nose to the ground, following my scent trail I laid down.
