Sounds like you tore the cartilage and have scar tissue.

I had the same problem and underwent arthroscopic surgery (3 holes about the diameter of your small finger). Five days later I was deer hunting and humping ridges. Never a crutch nor cane. A little sore, somewhat restricted in movement and squatting, but made it through the season.

Of course, healing differs from surgery to surgery and person to person. I do not have any -zero, zip, of the limitations or problems that are common after such surgery. I contribute my post-surgery condition to walking the boonies and humping the hills.
