as far as height goes, I would go as high as you feel comfortable. I dont thinkt there is any magic height it all varies on the terrian and the person. I personally believe that higher is better, reduces scent contamination and chances of being picked out. But at the same time it may also greatly reduce the chance of a double lung shot because of the angle. I would consider a shooting lane anything that makes for a clean shot out to your maximum shooting range. It could be as little as hole big as a basketball or a two track lane. I generally set up several good shooting lanes on every stand. Just remember notto take out to much, the least the better.
