RE: .22 l.r.
A 22 magnum or a 17 hmr for shots under 100 yards is my feelings on this one ive experinced 1 shot kills on yotes with a 17 HMR. a 22 lr ummm well..... Ive been there shot a yote at about 30 yards with a cci stinger hit him square in the lungs good pink foamy blood trail when I caught up with it I put another right in the boiler room again he run another 50 yards when i caught up with it the second time I stuck one right in the cranium then a second for good measure. not my idea of humane kill having to put 4 shots in a yote to dispatch it. but then some guys might get a kick out of that, but thats not for me. for awhile i used my 17 hmr but after a few kills I decided even it wasnt enough especially if you hit a rib you might need to stick a second round in it. Ive since went back to my feeling of nothing smaller then 17 cal centerfires for yotes.
if money is the issue you are lookin to use rimfire guns, you should look into a stevens model 200 they run about 275 bucks not a whole lot more then a rimfire rifle but they make them in all the best varmint calibers the .223, 22-250, and 243 any of those 3 you wont have to second guess wether you have enough gun or not.
