RE: .22 l.r.
Rick Pallet from Vermintators, the designer of Thumper and Tweedy calls uses a 10/22 mag for coyote and bobcat, the 22 mag is a 40 grain bullet and the 22lrviper is 36 grains, the golden bullet is 40 grains. The 22 mag is 1900 fpsmax for a 40 grain, the 22lr for 36 grain is 1900 fps and the 40 grain is 1500. Do you claim 4 grains of bullet makes that much difference? Now as for the shooting coyote with 22lr, yes 223 and 22-250 are faster, bullets are better, but I beleive the question is will the 22lr work at 75 yards and the answer in my opinion is yes, but your goal should be to call it closer. Is the 223 and up abetter tool, yes, but at 50-75 yards you won't notice the difference. I beleive shooting any animal in the head is irresponsiable, the reason is the contours of the head sometimesdeflect the bullet up the scalp, some bullets will explode rather than penetrate, other just flintch and hit the snout. Whether a 3 inch exit wound from 223 or 22-250or a 1 inch exit wound from a 22lrthe coyote is dead just as fast. And the 22lr yellow jacket is 33 grains and 1700 fpsandactually explodes which is why I recomended it. But I do respect your opinions.
