How hot does it get in Nebraska in November? For a deer to be stinky and bloated (indicating advanced internal rot) after one night and one morning in a ravine (where low temps will hold later in the day) it would have to be some pretty warm weather, which we did have some of last November in many places.
Also, if the deer was "bloated" how can you use tape measurements to accurately estimate weight? It's blown up loke a balloon!
But my biggest question is: You think you might have an exceptionally large buck that MIGHT go over 400 lbs live weight....and you don't actually weigh it to find out?
