I'd opt for a shotgun with #6 shot. Not a lot of overpenetration, but sure enough to damage an intruder within the confines of your home.

FWIW,of my current arsenal, I keep my CZ 75 9mmloaded and on the nightstand just in case.

If that doesn't work, I've got a CETME in the corner.[8D]
