Default RE: 22WMR or the 17HMR

NONE of the above statement is true. Other than maybe his personal accuracy results.

The 17hmr is by and far thefaster of the two cartridges. Anaverage 22wmr is below 2000ft/s; the norm with 17hmr is 2550ft/s. Some are chronographing their 17hmr's at over 2600ft/s. There are three different bullets made for the 17hmr and they are distributed by over five companies. Hornady, Remington, Winchester, Federal, CCI, and S&B. The first and second bulletsare the lightest and fastest of the three, one has explosive results on small game. This is the 17gr polymer tipped hornady v-max round. Next there is the 17gr. CCI TNT hollow point. This has more penetration and less explosive results. Last there is the new 20gr Hornady XTP also known as the CCI Game point. This is a 20gr plated projectile that expands like a hunting bullet. It still starts over 2250ft/s. Next. Although Coloradoprohunter might have a more accurate 22wmr than most, the overwhelming NORM will be that a stock or factory 17hmr will be much more accurate than a stock 22wmr. The trajectory of a 17HMR is much flatter than that of a 22wmr although it does give up a little in the way of ft/lbs of energy. A 17hmr in the hands of a good shooter can be a very effective 250yd or more varmint gun. Also many who have bedded the stocks and done trigger work on their 17hmr's have seen .5 inch group norms at 100yds. I personally have a 17hmr that is completely stock, and it shoots right at 1 inch at 100yds. Good luck deciding, and the 17hmr is a fun little round.

My baby!!!
