RE: coyote hunting
I've always found coyotes to be somewhat leary of stands. With my FoxPro, I had decent results in a stand because the coyotes weren't actually alert to the stand. However, with mouth calls I havea lot better luck setting up on the ground somewhere, making sure the wind is in my favor. At night, I just call from the pickup.
If you're by yourself, you will probably be better off in the early morning and late evening, where you don't have to hold the light and shoot at the same time. Coyotes are usually active at both times, although depending on the phases of the moon, this varies also. I had somebody tell me last year the moon phases indicated I should be hunting from 11am to 1pm. I thought he was crazy until I saw coyotes for three days straight between those times.
