Which is why I don't use brake cleaner or other harsh chemicals on my firearms.
Also, do not use Scotch-Brite pads unless you want to trash the finish on barrel, stock or other parts.
I just took delivery of an MLbarrel to repair a seized nipple that also needs complete refinishing because the owner used a green Scotch-Brite pad to remove fouling near the breech. One time.
My chemical of choice is Butch's Bore Shine. But the key is it stays in the bore and I only use it sparinglyon new bores to remove all packing lubes, if the bore get's leaded from conical shooting or after a couple hundred sabot rounds to remove plastic fouling.
For cleaning: Boilinghot soapy & water for muzzleloaders!
To remove storage oil and field swabbing: 50/50 mix of 99% Isopropyl Alcohol & Windex on patches.
