Default scored on a 5 point - pics

Well, I was lucky enough to take a nice buck this weekend. Not a real large buck - a 5 point - dressed 125 lbs. The deer was aged at over 2 years, which surprised me a little. He was likey one of those small spikes we passed last year.

The bucks in my area are still running together, and not showing much interest in does yet. He came in with two other smaller bucks. I had passed the other 2, and when it became clear that he was the largest in the group, I decided to try for him. I softly grunted him closer than the 30 yds he was out, almost too close. He came right to the base of the stand, and acted a little spooked at 5 yds, instead of letting him pass by for a quartering away shot, I took him almost broadside from over 20 ft up. I normally do not like that steep an angle, but I had practiced it, and it seemed like he was going to turn away once he crossed my entry point.

The arrow was tipped with a rocky mtn snyper broadhead, and I was very pleased with the penetration and performance. the arrow took one lung, and the arteries above the heart, and stopped at the base of the chest without going all the way through. The blood trail was a little sparce because of the high entrance wound, but he fell within 40 yds and less than 20 seconds.

Now I'm looking for a couple does until gun season, when I hope to have a chance at one of the mature 8 points we've seen. 4 others, are still looking for a buck in our group, and I hope they have a chance at the better bucks before the guns start going off in Mid Nov.
