Good information, Lemoyne. Buffalo are also kind of deceiving in this way too - the heart and lungs are very low and far forward from what a deer hunter would expect. And the spine runs much lower in the chest than members of the deer family. This creates a huge backstrap. The piece of meat weighs almost 100 lbs. If you try to shoot a buffao where the center of the lungs would be on an elk, for instance, you will hit this piece of meat. The buffalo will not be amused.
