Remingtion 1917 accuracy, absolutly amazing
My father has a old remingtion model 1917, chambered in the original 30-06. this gun has had no modifications, none, it wears all the original suff, includind the sights, we take it out for the first time in 10 years or so, using some cheapest reloaded ammo we could find ($17 for a bag of 50) at a gun show. we take it to the range. set out some standard pistol (4" bulleye) targets at 100yards.
my first time shooting this rifle ever, i fire a 3 shot group, we can only see that i nicked the bottom edge of the 6 bulleye, and we are wondering if we could even hit the paper consistantly. we couldnt see the other 2 shots because they we in the 10 ring, side by side less that 1/4 inch apart. total group size, was slightly under 2 inches.
best group of the day was 1.5" center to center. and this group wasnt fired like some of the others from sandbags, just elbows resting on the bench.
i am amazed at the accuracy of this rifle, with real factory ammo, or handloads and a scope i am betting it is capable of 1 hole groups, but we will never see that, because the rifle needs to stay as it was made. but wow that is a good shooter, especailly when i looked at the muzzle after shooting it, some careless handling sometime in the past has lead to pitting aroup the crown, all i can say is wow
