Default RE: planting sweet potatos

the best way I have found , is put you some potatoes in a rooting box at home.cover the tubers and leave just a little out of the ground.let them stay till the plants are about a foot tall.this way they will have roots on them.you will need a lot.I make a box about about 4' or 5' square, put the tubers almost touching.it will take about a bushel, cover with dirt till you only have just the top out of the ground. keep them watered and a little liquid fertizler.

when ready you will have several 100 plants.if you have a tractor, plow a trench about 6" to 8" deep.lay the plants in the trench and leave only about 1" of the tip sticking out, cover and pack.(packing helps keep the deer from pulling them up)it also helps them to take root all along the stem.

after they root they will grow and as the deer eat them off they will grow bacl. if they don't pull them up , they will keep on growning till the cold kills the plant.if they produce the potatos, the deer will dig them out and eat them all winter.(that is unless the grown freezes)

hope you have good luck on growning them.the deer love the vines better than any other greens you could plant.it's just harder to get thenm started.
