Default My first hit and first post...hope all is well

Today was the first hit I made on a deer. I've been reading through the posts and getting advice to help me out since this is my first season deer hunting. Because I am new to this though, I'm quite anxious about my situation now. I went hunting in the afternoon after spending all of last night and today trying to figure out the accuracy on my broadheads. I finally gave up on the Nugent Blades I had on, and put the 3 blade ones that I originally purchased back on. Anyway, today I was fortunate enough to take a shot at a buck (most likely 6pts). It hit at the right distance in regards to the length of the deer, but it was higher than I would've liked it. The deer ran off and I watched it from the stand. I saw the arrow hit, and I saw it still in the deer as he ran away. I followed it visually until it left my field of view. I never heard a crash or anything after I lost sight of it. After about 30 minutes, I went down to the area where he was shot to look around. My friend showed up around that time to help me track also. By the way, I shot the deer at 5:30, and sunset is a little after 6, so daylight was running out fast. There was no blood visible anywhere that I saw the deer run since the arrow didn't pass through it. We looked for a couple of hours, then decided it would be best to wait until morning to continue. I've read several posts on here about tracking that have been helpful. I was somewhat excited after I shot the deer, but knew that there was no celebration due until the animal is recovered, then the burden will be off. While we were looking we heard several coyotes not far off going nuts. I sure hope they're not mauling on my first buck!
