RE: Wyoming Preference Points
I live in Cheyoming and I want to appologise for our G&F!
The commission needs some glass belt buckles 'cause they all have their heads so far up their ass, they need some way to see!
I fear it's like our oil companies, once they know people will pay whatever they ask, they will never reverse it.
Preference points might be way over rated. Here's why I say that.
Nobody can (or will) tell you exactly how drawings, preference points, or licence selections work. (Having worked for an outfitter who used to be a biologist for the G&F, and one of our regular clients was a gal who worked the front desk in Cheyenne, for many years), I do know that it goes something like this.
Lets take Elk. If the G&F issues 500 licences for a region, some 15% will go to nonresident applications. They also somehow factor in your preference points to somehow give you a slight advantage. This "advantage" increases every year you get or buy a preference point.
THEORY!
I know guys that have been putting in for Moose for 20+ years and never drew. And there are stories of people who get a Moose tag their first year applying! Wait the five years, and get another one!!!!!!!!
No BS.
So my advice to you, don't believe the magical "preference points come-on". I also am under the understanding that the G&F issue a certain percentage of licenses to FIRST TIME APPLICANTS!
Wyoming is such a great place to live if your first love is the out doors. It's a shame that college educated "back easters" (no offence) go to work for the G&F and end up screwing it up for everybody.
Good luck y'all.
