BTW, I thought I heard in the last English debate Harper saying he also endorses the elimination of hand guns. Did I hear correctly?
No he is against the banning of handgun bill tabled. I attended a political meeting which featured all party colours last week. Being in Sask. most are opposed to what the liberals have done and recently tabled with regards to rec. firearms, gun control was a popular topic. The Conservatives favor a national registery for handguns (like there has been for 40 plus years in canada) but do not agree with the long gun registery. They said if they won a majority they would return the gun control (lack of better term) to pre 95. Meaning an FAC type permit to purchase firearms, etc but no official registery for long guns (scrape the cash cow we know today!!). The handgun registery would continue as is.
BTW they are the only party that take this approach. NDP, Liberal, Green, etc all favor gun control as we know it today for long gunsand as well the handgun ban as proposed by Martin's crew. I am not sure about the BLOC's stance on this issue though.
For sportsman the only option to not lose ground is HARPER. Don't kind yourself Rock said it 95' and the Liberals are slowly getting to that point..."No canadian needs a gun!!". The NDP are very close to the liberals in policy and Layton has publicly stated handguns serve no purpose in citzens hands.
I hope they can hold onto the trend and to grow, getting the seats required for a majority. A minority will notwork for Harper as PM, the conservatives are to far from the kings mate in this race (Layton's NDP). The Bloc well to radical as we have found out in the past 18 months for anyone to jump in bed with!!!
