Well guys I had my first hog hunt and I nearly crapped myself. What excitement. The moon was out all the days we hunted and the hogs were nocturnal so we hunted until midnight each night. The coyotes were howling and the pigs were grunting. How awesome. I shot at one at 10:30pm right between the eyes with my 50 cal muzzleloader. Those of you who hunt these things know that was a bad shot as you will not get penetration at all. The guide showed up and we tracked where he was going. Based on the size of the hoof marks he said it was around 230 lbs. The hoof marks were staggering through the woods, which indicated I had stunned him good as he said. The other guys had luck with their 300 magnums and killed three of them at 250 lbs as well as a bobcat. I was lucky enough that one of them does not eat the meat so I now have a freezer full of hog ready for the smoker. If you know of any receipes that would be great. My outfitter was East Texas Boars and Bucks
White Oak Outfitters Inc. Their website is
www.netex.quik.com/boars Bruce is great and he has hundreds of stories of what he has seen on the ranch. He operates 3900 acres and his rates are low. I paid 300 for two hogs on a two day hunt. He will be offering a three day hunt for 450 next year after he retires. I will definetly be going again as I am hooked on hogs.
