Tonight I had the pleasure of my wifes company when I went out to get a pig. This was the first time she went with me and she thinks she may want to start hunting.
We went to a tripod stand that has had a lot of hog activity lately.I had her climb the stand and I sat on a bucket on the ground. We were not on stand for more than 5 minutes when we started hearing hogs headed our way. I told her to cover her ears if one came out onto the logging road. Well the hogs stopped just off the road about 30yds from us. Carie watched them for a while before I ever saw them. Finally I detected movement behind a brush pile. I stood up slowly took aim at the bigger of the two hogs I could see and dropped the hammer of my CVA .50 sidelock. The big sow dropped like a rock.
Carie told me that she saw 10 hogs from up on the stand. She was up about 12', and with me on the ground I just couldn't see them all. I was lucky enough to kill the biggest of the bunch.
Carie told me she had fun and wants to go again. I better get her the
30-30 she wants!
