RE: Bought my FIRST one....
.....good choice on your first rifle!..... and, most of the reason you feel the recoil, is because of just what you stated..... the amount of recoil such a LITTLE gun could make.... that's why the leveractions are so popular... they are small, light, and handy.... all of which make the recoil more noticeable. If you shot a 308 out of a Winchester.... (like the 307 Winchester) I'm sure the recoil would be more painful than the 30-30.... given equal bullet weights.
Just as a suggestion... I'd try to use the 170gr bullets for hogs... unless they are smaller... 200-250lbs or so... hogs are TOUGH animals... very heavily muscled, and dense.... I saw one stop a 150gr bullet from a 30-06 at about 45 yards on a broadside quartering shot. NO exit at all.... this was about a 250lb hog... I'd use the "toughest" bullet I could find, and it should do a great job.
