RE: Bought my FIRST one....
Thanx guys!! It feels now like I'm a part of the crowd! Although a very inexperienced part - but a part nevertheless.
It was lightly raining here in Houston today and somewhat chilly. [ <72 degrees... hehe... Gotta LUV southern winters, eh? ] So I wore something will a little XTRA padding on the shoulder and went to the range with a small hammer and a wooden dowel.
Got the sights ON TARGET!! The groups are holding steady and I think a 3 - 4 inch group will be plenty accurate to take a hog. So I think I now have enough firepower on target for a clean hit.
I didn't get the cheek thump from the recoil. But it did make me VERY conscientous of exactly WHERE I was shouldering the butt of the rifle. I can see where people would be put off from weapons due to recoil 'specially if they didn't have it shouldered correctly.
It's been about 10 years since I last punched some paper and Whew!! DID IT FEEL GOOD!!! Now if I can just find a hog that wants to play!
On a side note... another friend of mine who's an ANTI NUT went to the range with me. He wanted to get an idea of what the DC a-hole was up against. I gave him about 10 minutes instruction how to hold, aim, breathe, and squeeze. He was hitting an area about 24' consistently. He came away with a better understanding that the shots this guy is taking are NOT that difficult.
AND... he also now wants to go hunting with me! hehe.. I had to tell him that we'd probably be just walking through the woods more than shooting at game until I learn what has to be done...
