Stock design has a lot to do with felt recoil. Oddly enough, a .308 surely does kick more than a .30/30! In fact, a .308 kicks almost as much as a .30/'06, but not quite! Unfortunately, the M94 Winchester's stock design is perfect for making you feel every foot/pound of recoil, usually on your cheekbone!!
