I don't want to start a long debate on this, but just because someone misses something once, that doesn't make it a bad gun. I 99.9% of the time it is operator error, not equipment error. To say that your 870 has never killed a turkey, well how could it if you don't use it? sounds like your son had a bad experiance, and you decided to blame the gun. Encourage him to keep using the 870, he won't be disappointed noce he finds a goold load that works with the gun. I know for a fact that they are capable of killing turkeys out to 55 yards, with only a 3" shell. I just don"t see a mossberg performing like that.

But it sounds like you have something against the Mossberg.
I have another son that killed a bird at 55 yds with a 20 gauge Benelli.
Range has more to do with the choke and ammo than it has to do with the gun model.
