Bait "piles," are for hogs! When someone talks of bait "piles," Ijust about know for surethey don'tknow anything of what they are talking about!
JagMagMan, FYI...here in Saskatchewan where baiting is legal for biggame animals that is what they essentially are at 99% of those sites where an individual or outfitter uses baiting techniques. I think I have heard of only a handful of feeders being used, at that most where used to hobby feed or to collect sheds in the winter. Here a square alfalfa bail or 2 with some oats, barley, peas,etc mixed in and salt block put out on the ground constitute a deer bait.Few refer to them as a "Bait Pile" but like I said they sure do ressemble that remark!!!
Now to the question well that depends on the time of year, pressure, etc. If I must pick only one I prefer being in deep transition & as close to the bedroom as possible.
