Default RE: Is Public land the hardest to hunt ?

ORIGINAL: Mr. Longbeard

I know there is alot of people on this forum that hunt places like this and that is fine. Just don't try and tell me that my turkeys I hunt on my public land are no harder to hunt then your unpressured field birds...

Who? Name one. Every time I read these posts I gotta shake my head.Explain to me what ya mean by harder to hunt.Diffrent yes but harder no.I have some questions for anyone who thinks it's harder.Do you park where everyone else does and walk in the same direction as everyone else?Do you yelp your butt off even though the real hens aren't yelpin?Just cause someone else bumps a bird,Do you give up on that bird? The list goes on and on.I'd like to explain somethin about gobblers(correct me if I'm wrong) In the Spring ,gobblers got one thing on their mind. When you call you are supposed to be a hen.If they won't come to the callin of a hen, they won't breed and the population will die off.Think about it.How are the real hens callin?and from where? example,I'm gonna hunt a pressured tom./Go to his strut zone(found this in preseason scoutin) It won't be far from his roostin sight./Set up/use clucks and purrs/Be ready,He's more than likely gonna come in silent. This is just one example.Another example quite a few years ago I called in a couple of longbeards on heavy hunted ground. The guy I was with took his first longbeard. He said he wished I coulda got a shot at the other.I told him to relax and take a nap.He looked at me like I was crazy. After a few minutes we could hear carsdown on the road leavin.1/2 later I told him to keep his eyes open and I made a few gobbler yelps(very few) 10 min. later I saw the red head commin through the brush. He came in silent.Right to the same spot my buddy shot his bird less than an hour earlier.Nothin is guarenteed.NOBODY,kills a bird everytime out but like Bobgobble said persistance pays off.Like anythin else you'll get back from turkey huntin what you put into it.
